1ST Meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) – Focus Group on Smart Water Management (FG-SWM), 10 December 2013, Lima, Peru

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs.   ITU established the Focus Group on Smart Water Management (FG-SWM) in June 2013 since it believes that there is a need to collaborate with policy makers, water authorities, and relevant international and regional organizations in order to shape the global agenda in “ICTs and Smart Water Management”. Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager has participated in the first meeting of the FG-SWM which took place on 10 December 2013 in Lima, Peru.

Policy Dialogue with major groups on the Implementation of the Arab Water Security Strategy and its Action Plan, 27-28 November 2013, Amman, Jordan

The Council of Arab Water Ministers has requested that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) along with regional partners organize a policy dialogue with major groups on the Arab Water Security Strategy (AWSS) and its Action Plan. This dialogue seeks to mobilize stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of the Strategy and Action Plan at both national and regional levels.  Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager has participated in this important event in Amman-Jordan, 27-28 November 2013.

Regional Forum on Promoting Better Vehicular Fuel Quality and Fuel Economy Policies for the Arab countries 24-25th November 2014 at the League of Arab States headquarters, Cairo, Egypt

fuel-economy-standard1The “Regional Forum on Promoting Better Vehicular Fuel Quality and Fuel Economy Policies for the Arab countries” was held on 24-25th November 2014 at the League of Arab States headquarters, Cairo, Egypt. The Forum supported by the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV), the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE). The participants were representatives of the government, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.

The 3rd Steering Committee meeting of the EU funded Sustainable Water Integrated Management Programme – Support Mechanism (SWIM-SM), 12 & 13 November 2013, Athens

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager has attended the 3rd Steering Committee meeting of the EU funded Sustainable Water Integrated Management Programme – Support Mechanism (SWIM-SM) that will be held in Athens on 12 & 13 November 2013. The SC meeting was organised with the aim of presenting the achievements of the 2nd implementation year of SWIM-SM and of providing a forum for the exchange of views on the project’s future activities.

Kick-off Workshop on Advancing a Nexus Approach to the Sustainable Management of Water, Soil and Waste, 11-12 November 2013, Dresden, Germany

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager has elaborated CEDARE’s experience in implementing initiatives related to the nexus between water, soil and waste in the International Kick-off Workshop on Advancing a Nexus Approach to the Sustainable Management of Water, Soil and Waste, took on 11-12 November 2013 in Dresden, Germany.

MEWINA holds the Regional Validation Workshop & 3rd Steering Committee Meeting

MEWINA holds the Regional Validation Workshop, 3rd Steering Committee MeetingWith the aim of validating the technical Rapid Assessment Reports at the national as well as transboundary, basins & aquifers, levels, MEWINA’s Regional Project Management Unit (RPMU) is organizing the Regional Validation Workshop in Cairo from October 27th to 29th, 2013.  Also, presenting and discussing the water sector M&E regional reports that have been prepared by the consultant throughout the Rapid Assessment component will be another objective.

Back-to-back with the Workshop, the Project’s 3rd Steering Committee meeting will be held. The 2-days meeting is meant for assessing the technical and operational performance of the Project at all levels by the distinguished SC members representing the Arab Water Council (AWC), the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), the African Union Commission (AUC), the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), the Food and Agriculture organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) members of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania & Tunisia, and finally CEDARE.
