The 18th Regional Steering Committee Meeting for GWP Eastern Africa and to 3rd IWA Development Congress and Exhibition, 14th- 19th October 2013, Nairobi-Kenya

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, as a member of Regional Steering Committee has attended the 18th Ordinary Steering Committee Meeting that took place in Nairobi-Kenya from 18th to 19th October 2013 which was organized by the Regional Secretariat of the Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa Region (GWPEA). The purpose of this Ordinary RSC meeting was to discuss the activity progress for the year 2013, to approve and provide strategic guidance on a number of important issues including the 2014 Annual Action Plan and Budget, among others.

The World Water Council’s Members’ Meeting, 6 October 2013 and the 50th Board of Governors’ Meeting on 7-8 October 2013, Budapest, Hungary

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager has attended the World Water Council’s Members’ Meeting in Budapest which took place on 6th October 2013 at the Budapest Waterworks premises that was followed by the 50th Board of Governors' Meeting on 7-8 October 2013 in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

MEWINA Holds Consultation Workshops (Egypt)On September 25th, 2013, Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation organized its national Consultation Workshop. It was attended by the MEWINA Regional Coordinator, the Rapid Assessment consultants and assessors, the National Coordinator, the National M&E Specialist & the National Task Force members and other stakeholders. It aimed at discussing the findings of the Rapid Assessment of Monitoring and Evaluation Systems and Water Indicators, namely the draft national RA Report of Egypt, the draft RA transboundary Report of Nile River Basin (NB), the draft RA transboundary Report of Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System (NSAS), as well as the AMCOW Report.

The workshop objective was to verify data and indicators at the national level and to reach an agreed upon set of water sector indicators which will contribute to the preparation of the periodical national State of the Water Report, and hence, the sub-regional and regional SOW Reports.

3rd ITU Green Standards Week 16-20 September 2013, Madrid – Spain

CEDARE co-organized with the ITU the 3rd ITU Green Standards Week from 16 to 20 September 2013, in Madrid, Spain. The meeting brought together leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, academia, standards experts and others.

The main purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICT standards to build a green economy and shape smart sustainable cities.

CEDARE joined with ITU, UNEP and UNU in discussing environmentally sound management practices of e-waste. 

Workshop in Algeria for Dissemination of BAT4MED Project Outcomes, 19 August 2013

BAT4MED_logoAs part of the final activities of the EU Project, Best Available Techniques for the Mediterranean (BAT4MED), the Center for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is holding its last national workshop on the 19th of August 2013 to disseminate project results in Algeria. The event is held in cooperation with the Algerian Centre for Cleaner Production (CNTPP). This comes as part of the final activities of BAT4MED where the project results are being disseminated in other Arab countries of the Mediterranean in a series of workshops. Previous workshops were successfully held in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Libya over the past months.

Workshop in Libya for Dissemination of BAT4MED Project Outcomes on August 15th, 2013

As part of the final activities of the EU Project, Best Available Techniques for the Mediterranean (BAT4MED), the Center for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is holding a national workshop on the 15th of August 2013 to disseminate project results in Algeria. The event is held in cooperation with the Environmental General Authority (EGA) of Libya at their premises in Alghiran, Tripoli at 10am. As BAT4MED project comes to a close, the project results are being disseminated in other Arab countries of the Mediterranean in a series of workshops. Previous workshops were held in Palestine, Beirut, and Lebanon over the past month.
