Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, water expert and Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, has participated in the Fifth Meeting of the Water Expert Group that took place on 23rd-24th November 2015 in Luxembourg. The meeting was co-sponsored by the European Commission and the GWP Water, Climate and Development Programme (GWP WACDEP). The meeting aimed at relaunching a regular regional dialogue on water issues of common interest, building on the 2008 Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Water held at the Dead Sea, Jordan on the 22nd December 2008, and the work carried out over the past seven years. The meeting was also expected to expand and integrate in the debate emerging issues like the water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus as well as pressing challenges like climate change.

Annual Conference on Sustainable Consumption (16-17 November, 2015), Beirut, Lebanon
CEDARE participated in the Annual Conference on Sustainable Consumption that was held in Beirut during the period from 16-17 November, 2015. The event was organized by the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED).
AFED report: “Sustainable Consumption in Arab Countries” was presented and discussed during the conference.
The comprehensive report which AFED prepared in cooperation with a group of experts and specialized organizations investigated how changing consumption patterns can help preserve resources and protect the environment, ultimately leading to sustainable development.
Workshop on “Promoting transboundary water cooperation in the MENA Region on the basis of the water convention and the 7th session of the meeting of the parties to the UNECE convention on the protection and use of transboundary watercourses and International lakes, 15-19 November 2015, Budapest, Hungary
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, water expert and Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, has participated in the seventh session of the Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes took place on 17-19 November 2015 in Budapest, Hungary. The meeting was held back to back with the workshop on Promoting transboundary water cooperation in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region on the basis of the Water Convention. The workshop took stock of the progress achieved by MENA countries towards accession to the Water Convention, discussed common issues related to interpretation, accession and implementation of the Convention, as well as next steps and needed actions.
The workshop was organized by the Government of Italy, in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) and UNECE, with the support of the Government of Hungary.
It was held back-to-back with the Seventh session of the Meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Water Convention (17-19 November 2015, Budapest, Hungary).

Joint Committee Meeting on Environment and Development in the Arab Region “JCEDAR” of the League of Arab States (14-17 November, 2015), League of Arab States, Egypt
CEDARE participated in the meetings of the 17th session of "JCEDAR" that was held in the League of Arab States (LAS) premises during the period from 14-17 November 2015. CEDARE has presented the status of the Arab Region Environmental Information network that is being developed in cooperation with UNEP. Also, CEDARE presented the Arab region Roadmap for enhancing fuel quality that was produced in cooperation with UNEP and the Arab countries
World Water Council 7th General Assembly, Marseille, 12-14 November 2015
Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, water expert and Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, as a member of the WWC has attended the General Assembly which was an opportunity for all members of the World Water Council to influence the strategic orientation of the organization by voting policies and programs. It was also the occasion for members to elect the representatives of the Board of Governors for a term of three years, approve the triennial budget, and adopt the work program and By-Laws. A total of 35 Governors representing 5 colleges of members were elected during the General Assembly.
