The Swiss SRI Project Launches its Entrepreneurship Support Programme: E-KHORDA

As mandated by the SRI Project, E-Khorda; the entrepreneurship sE-khorda logoupport and incubation programme was recently launched to provide technical assistance to start-ups in the e-waste recycling field and to help build operational e-waste companies by end of 2017. E-Khorda’s implementing partners are CEDARE, Chemonics Egypt Consultants, Cleantech Arabia, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Innoventures, and Sofies Consulting. The incubation programme, which was preceded by 3 separate info sessions targeting interested applicants, consists of a two-month detailed capacity building and training including a condensed 10-day training which started on March 10, 2017.

SwitchMed Training Workshop for “Grassroots Initiatives on Social Eco-Innovation” (11-14 March, 2017 @ SEKEM EcoVillage, Egypt)

As part of the EU-funded SwitchMed Civil Society Empowerment Programme, a free-of-charge four-day training workshop is co-IMG-20170311-WA0017organized by CEDARE in partnership with the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption & Production (SCP/RAC) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA).

SRI Conducts Technical Needs Assessment for Existing E-Waste Recyclers

Not only is SRI Egypt attempting startups, but also existing enterprises, which have a considerable share in thdownloade bundle of services provided by the project. As a tool of business development, the Technical Needs Assessment is a major activity designed for e-waste recyclers and in line with the “Training and Technical Support” component. The Project’s experts met with a number of existing recyclers on February 14th, 15th, & 19th, 2017. The one-to-one working sessions aimed at conducting a rapid assessment of the specific technical needs of each enterprise as well as to help them acquire those needs. This very activity targeted exploring potential development opportunities, bridging existing informational gaps and providing enterprises with technical support as mandated by the project.

SRI Project conducts the third meeting of its Steering Committee

On February 1st, 2017, the Steering Committee members of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Project met in one of a series of periodical meetings to follow up on the implementation of the project at the technical and operational levels. The meeting, chaired by the Director of Information Infrastructure Division and hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), was attended by all members and the CEO of Sofies and the Project Director and Coordinator representing the Project Management Unit in CEDARE besides all partners and stakeholders.

SRI Egypt starts 2017 Activities by bringing together the Project’s Advisory Board

As one of the key deliverables, the SRI Project advisory board has been recently 1st Advisory Board Meetingestablished and the first meeting was held on January 11th, 2017 at the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT). The structure of the board incorporates CEDARE, Egypt National Cleaner Production Centre (ENCPC), Egyptian Organization for Standards & Quality, Information Technology Institute (ITI), MCIT, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Social Fund for Development (SFD), Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) & UNDP GEF.
