Good Agricultural Practices on Geographic Indication for Sustainable Production and Increased Marketing Competence to Enhance Rural Livelihood in Matrouh

The EU Joint Rural Development Programme and the Italian Development cooperation, funded project, “Good Agricultural Practices on Geographic Indication for e Production and Increased Marketing Competence to Enhance Rural Livelihood in Matrouh”, which aims to increase sustainability and marketing opportunities of        agricultural products in Matrouh by adopting Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) on Geographic Indication (GI) and improve livelihood of the rural communities. The project responds to 2 of the main thematic priorities that guide CEDARE’s development plan. Firstly, environment and development for human well-being and secondly, utilizing environmental resources as a catalyst for socio-economic development.

 

Sustainable Investments in Solid and Agricultural Waste in Fayoum and Minya (SISAW)

  The overall objective of the SISAW (2018) project is to enhance Fayoum and Minya rural   population wellbeing achieving sustainable territorial resources governance and socio-    economic development through innovative participatory solid waste management SWM process. This will be accomplished through enhancing rural public and multi-actors contribution to sustainable waste management implementing an appropriate governance scheme based on learning for all pathway.

Also, through contributing to rural Fayoum and Menya livelihoods improvement through Income Generating Activities and entrepreneurship promotion based on innovative WM processes relying on improved infrastructure.

 

SRI & UNDP-GEF Projects Provide Hands-on Training on E-Waste Dismantling

In continuation of the numerous collaborations between the Swiss SRI Project and UNDP-GEF E-Waste Management Project, the E-Waste Dismantling Training Workshop was jointly co-organized on the 4th & 5th of December 2017. International experts from Sofies and an Italian recycler delivered the hands-on training, which was held in Giza at one of the accredited Egyptian recycling facilities.

SRI E-Khorda Startups Graduated

In conclusion of E-Khorda: the SRI incubation programme for e-waste entrepreneurs, a grand event "Startup Nova – Entrepreneurship Explosion" was organized by Innoventures on the 5th of December, 2017 in Cairo. The innovative finalists, who had been endorsed to reach the Startup Reactor’s fourth and final stage, were eligible to present their projects before a high-level panel of experts.

Egyptian Minister of Environment propagates Biodegradable Plastic Bags in 7 Hypermarket Chains

On Friday December 1st, 2017, H. E. Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment, visited 4 hypermarket chains to kick off the packing in biodegradable plastic bags. The event marked the conclusion of the first phase of the National Initiative of Reduction of Plastic Bags and the first popular activity throughout the six past months.

Improved Solid Waste Management and Health Services in Ezbet Allam – El Khosoos City – Qalyubeya Governorate

GIZ funded project comprises a number of inter-related and mutually supporting interventions that aim at improving living conditions of the urban poor residing in Ezbet Allam-El KKhoussous City, especially for youth and women. The action embodies interventions to improve solid waste management (SWM) service inside the target area by augmenting capacity of the service contractor with an additional equipment that will increase collection and disposal efficiency and frequency. In the same vein, the project proposes to increase involvement of the civil society organizations (CSOs) in environmental service delivery, a feature of good local governance. The project helps to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the SWM service inside and outside Ezbet Allam.   The project also carried out clean up and tree planting campaigns in the project area.  It also supported the establishment of a clinic in the area, and involved the civil society in the management of the clinic.

 

Economic Valuation of Ecosystems

Valuation of Ecosystems picEconomic Valuation of Ecosystems – During the period 24-26 March 2015, and in collaboration with IUCN-ROWA and EEAA, the Environmental Governance Programme of CEDARE organized at its premises a capacity building programme on Environmental Economics and Valuation of Ecosystems for the staff of the Ministry of Environment.  The capacity development program includes cost effectiveness, economic valuation techniques, valuation tools, indicators, and using valuation of ecosystems to influence policy making.  Also case studies are used for elaboration.
