The ReWater MENA project aims at the reuse of water in a safe manner by developing a shared strategy for water reuse in Egypt until 2030.  This project which is funded by SIDA and led by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in cooperation with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), and other national stakeholders in Egypt. ReWater MENA Project

In many parts of the world, there is not enough water to meet growing demand. One promising solution is smart use of water that has already been previously used. Water can be used in cities and reused in agriculture with benefits for all.  Drawing on experience with water reuse strategies already developed in the region, the ReWater MENA project will identify promising innovations and validated reuse.  Under funding from the Swedish SIDA, and the leadership of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), CEDARE in cooperation with other partners embarked in 2018 on a 4-year project that will help expand the safe reuse of water in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). CEDARE Launching First National Learning Alliance, ReWater Egypt, Cairo, May 20, 2019

CEDARE launched the ReWater MENA project first National Learning Alliance (NLA) Workshop in Egypt on May 20, 2019. The project is funded by the Swedish SIDA and lead by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). CEDARE and ICARDA are leading the implementation of project activities in Egypt. Lisode, the project partner responsible for stakeholder engagement, facilitated brainstorming and discussions during the NLA workshop.

First National Steering Committee Meeting, ReWater Egypt, CEDARE, Cairo, March 14, 2019

On March 14, 2019, the ReWater Mena project held Egypt’s First National Steering Committee Meeting, which brought together representatives from the uptake partners (Ministries of Agriculture, Environment and Housing); project partners leading implementation of project activities in Egypt at the local and national levels – the International Centre for Agriculture in the Dry areas (ICARDA) and Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE); and representatives from the Arab Water Council (AWC) and International Water Management Institute (IWMI), which leads the project. IWMI launches ReWater MENA at Cairo Water Week, Cairo, October 17, 2018

To promote the safe reuse of treated wastewater in the Middle East and North Africa, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and its partners have launched ReWater MENA, a 4-year regional project with specific activities in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. Drawing on experience with existing water reuse strategies in the region, the project will identify promising innovations and validated models to address management bottlenecks that constrain water reuse.
