Challenges of Shifting to Plastic Bags Alternatives discussed with the Government Officials

As the governmental sector is a key player in policy-making and regulating consumption patterns, another consultation session was jointly organized by CEDARE and the Ministry of Environment, on May 22nd, 2017, in a series of consecutive sessions as part of the agenda of SwitchMed Demo Reduction of Plastic Bags Consumption Project, inDSC_7098 partnership with the UN Environment. The consultation session was attended by several governmental authorities including the Chamber of Chemical Industries at the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Directorate of Environmental Safety at the Ministry of Higher Education, the Directorate of Environmental Monitoring at the Ministry of Health & Population, and Ministry of Water Resources & Irrigation.

SRI & UNDP/GEF provide A Joint Training on “E-Waste Sustainable Management”

The Swiss Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Project, implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of CommunicatiDSC_0644on & Information Technology (MCIT) & the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE) collaborated with the UNDP/GEF Medical and Electronic Waste Management Project, implemented in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in organizing the training workshop on “E-Waste Sustainable Management”. The training took place during the period from April 10-12, 2017 at the Semiramis Hotel, Cairo, Egypt.

STE2016 – Sustainable Transport in Egypt: Progress, Prospects and Partnerships,Wednesday, December 14th, 2016, Cairo

On December 14th, 2016, diverse stakeholders in the fields of transportation, urban planning, environment, and intelligent transportation systems, all gathered for a dissemination event held by Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) to disseminate their projects in sustainable transportation. The results of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative study on fuel economy for light duty vehicles for Egypt was presented, along with an interactive discussion about the various policies suggested in Egypt and presented through a policy brief that was handed out to all participants.

UNEP, Egyptian Ministry of Environment & CEDARE jointly launch 2 Demonstration Projects in Egypt “Mainstreaming Sustainable & Green Public Procurement” & “Reduction of Plastic Bags Consumption”

20161206_2On December 6th, 2016, another new resourceful initiative was launched adding to an extensive successful partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Egyptian Ministry of Environment (MOE) & the Centre for Development and Environment for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE). The three partners have launched two demonstration Projects namely; "Mainstreaming Sustainable & Green Public Procurement" Project and "Reduction of Plastic Bags Consumption" Project. A press conference attended by Dr. Iyad Abumoghli, Regional Director and Representative for the UNEP Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA), Eng. Ahmed Abul Seoud, EEAA’s Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Hossam Allam, Regional Director of CEDARE’s Sustainable Growth Programme, was conducted to announce the details of each project.

Low Sulphur Diesel Roadmap for the League of Arab States December 4th, 2016

On December 4th, 2016, UN Environment Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) in cooperation with Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) held a networking event for the members of the League of Arab States Joint Committee for Environment and Development in the Arab Region (JCEDAR) in Cairo. The event, held in a friendly dinner setting, also gathered experts in the field who are interested in promotion of cleaner fuels and improved air quality.

A national Iraqi Workshop on Improving fuel quality and a Roadmap for Achieving Euro V targets on Fuels and Vehicle Emission Standard was held in Singapore on 29th-30th of August 2016, co-organized by UNEP-PCFV, UNEP Regional Office for West Asia (UNEP ROWA), Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA), and Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE).

CEDARE and ISOCARP Cooperate for Sustainable Cities in the Arab and African Countries

Dr. Khaled El Adli, Vice President of ISOCARP.  This MOU is drawn to unite efforts to provide high quality capacity building activities and project implementations in the MENA and Africa regions.
