Throughout June 18-19, 2019, the Sustainable Transport in Egypt (STE 2019) international seminar was held in Cairo with the theme of Cleaner Fuels for Cleaner Air. It was co-organized by the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) with the Ministry of Environment of Egypt, UN Environment and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), and in cooperation with the Egyptian General Petroleum Company (EGPC), and the African Refiners & Distributors Association (ARA).

CEDARE participates in the Arab High-Level Forum on the World Summit for Information Society (WSIS) and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Throughout 8-12 May 2017, CEDARE participated in the Arab High-Level Forum on World Summit for Information Society and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development held by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and its partners. The forum focused on internet governance and its linkages with the Sustainable Development Goals. Among the participants were the Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications, Minister of Administrative Reform, and Minister of Economy and Trade, and hosted 62 speakers including representation of CEDARE.
CEDARE presenting the cleaner fuels and vehicles studies at the AMCEN 2015 conference [02/03/2015]
On March 2, 2015, the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) presented results of four Case studies of the Fuel Economy and CO2 Emissions trends of new Light-Duty Vehicles in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Bahrain. CEDARE also presented the results of the study of the roadmap for the reduction of sulphur in fuels in the Arab region. The presentations and following panel discussion were presented to interested stakeholders attending the the Africa Sustainable Transport Forum (ASTF) side event during the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) of 2015, and was a good opportunity to also expose the expanding outreach of the activities of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) and the Partnership for Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles. Key issues discussed during the meeting was the importance of sharing information and data on fuels and vehicles within and between countries in order to better understand the status and design and monitor progress of strategies and action plans.
Much activity remains to be done with respect to sulphur reduction in fuels in many Arab countries and also in enforcing regulations and policies that better control the quality of vehicles in the respective domestic markets in order to minimize risks of air pollution and improve overall fuel efficiency.

The “Regional Forum on Promoting Better Vehicular Fuel Quality and Fuel Economy Policies for the Arab countries” was held on 24-25th November 2014 at the League of Arab States headquarters, Cairo, Egypt. The Forum supported by the League of Arab States (LAS), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles (PCFV), the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE). The participants were representatives of the government, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.
