CEDARE Water Programme Manager, elected chair of the Global Water Partnership Regional Chairs

gwp_logo_anniversaryCEDARE Regional Water Manager and GWP-Eastern Africa Chair, Prof. Khaled M. AbuZeid, has been elected Chair of GWP Regional Chairs. Prof. AbuZeid is appointed Chair of GWP Regional Chairs until the end of 2018. Accordingly, he will be representing the 13 GWP Regional Water Partnerships (RWPs) at the GWP Global Steering Committee as an Ex-Officio Member. The 2nd GWP Global Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Stockholm, GWP Head Office, during the period of 6-9 December 2016.

The 13 GWP Regional Water Partnerships that will be represented by Dr. AbuZeid, include GWP Eastern Africa, GWP Central Africa, GWP West Africa, GWP Southern Africa, GWP Mediterranean, GWP South Asia, GWP Southeast Asia, GWP Central Asia & Caucasus, GWP China, GWP South America, ‎GWP Caribbean, GWP Central America, GWP Central & Eastern Europe.

GWP's vision calls for a Water Secure World through Urban Water Security, Transboundary Water Security, Ecosystems Water Security, Food and Water Security, Climate Change and Water Security, and Achieving the Water SDG and associated Targets.

The 6th Meeting of the WEG Drafting Group– Brussels

The UfM WEG Meetings objective is to inform and update attendees – Dr. Khaled AbuZeid included – on the steps taken and foreseen toward financial strategy in support of the decisions of the UfM Ministerial Conference, the work of the Drafting Group according to the mandate it was given by the WEG and the basis of the prior work of the Drafting Group (the drafts include the common regional water agenda in the UfM framework, WEG Mode of Operations and Roadmap and guidelines for a WEG Work Programme).

The Union for the Mediterranean 6th Meeting of the Water Expert Group, 19-22 December 2016, Brussels, Belgium

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, water expert and Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, has participated in the Union for the Mediterranean 6th Meeting of the Water Expert Group, 19th-22nd December 2016, Brussels, Belgium.

The Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfMS) announced the Sixth Meeting of the Water Expert Group (WEG), took place on 20th December 2016 in Brussels. The Meeting was of paramount importance as a step towards the UfM Ministerial Meeting on Water which is to be held in Malta in 2017. The 6th WEG Meeting would contribute to the consultation towards a draft ministerial declaration, integrating and expanding contents of the UfM regional water agenda.

The Assessment Workshop on Governance for situations of competing water demands in Africa, 27-30 November 2016, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, water expert and Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, has participated in The Assessment Workshop on Governance for situations of competing water demands in Africa, 27th-30th November 2016, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The workshop was organized by the Africa Natural Resources Centre (ANRC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB) which has a mandate to work with their client countries to advance on capacity development, technical assistance and knowledge development. The workshop acknowledged the social and economic transformative role of water and that improved water resources management and water and sanitation services underpin making progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Similarly, investments in water infra-structures and governance play a critical role to achieve African Development Bank’s “High-Five” priorities related to: food and energy security; industrialization; regional integration; and improved quality of life for the people of Africa.
