On July 28, 2021, the 5th National Learning Alliance (NLA) Consultation Dialogue was held for Consultation on the “Egypt 2030 Shared Water Reuse Strategy”, organized by the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), which represents the fifth in a series of six national dialogues over the past two years to develop the Egypt Strategy 2030 Shared Water Reuse. This dialogue was within the framework of the ReWater MENA project funded by SIDA and led by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and implemented in partnership with the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), in cooperation with relevant stakeholders in Egypt. In the session organized on “Ecosystems, Wetlands and Sustainable Development in the Arab Region” on March 22nd, 2018 at the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia, CEDARE, joined speakers from Egypt, Iraq, the League of Arab States, RAED, and the Arab Water Council in sharing their experience and views on the topic. CEDARE Water Resources Director, Khaled AbuZeid, indicated that Wetlands and Ecosystems are gaining attention through the RAMSAR Convention, the Nature-Based Solutions 2018 World Water Development Report, indicators in the Arab State of the Water Report by CEDARE and AWC, SDG 15 and SDG 6.6 which has a 2020 Target which is earlier than other SDGs that have targets in 2030.
CEDARE Water Resources Director, Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, participated in a session on the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus organized on March 21st, 2018 at the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia, Dr. AbuZeid has indicated in his presentation on the Water Energy Food Nexus in the Arab Region that the Arab Countries import about 340 Billion Cubic Meters of Virtual Water embedded in their food imports. He concluded his speech by recommending that Policy decisions that are to be made in any of the water security, energy security, or food security fields should not be done in isolation but rather within a nexus approach. He concluded that WEF Nexus should consider the fit-for-purpose water use, the long term implications of using fossil reserves, the transboundary dimension of the WEF Nexus, the green water comparative advantage for food production, the optimization of virtual water trade, the measures needed to reduce food wastage, water wastage, and energy wastage, and the trade-offs between increasing water efficiency, increasing water recycling, and the corresponding energy needs.
CEDARE organized a session on the “Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation” on March 20th, 2018 during the 8th World Water Forum held in Brazil. The session was inagurated by a speech of Prince Albert II of Monaco. The sessions included speakers from CEDARE, Monaco, France, Spain, Palestine, and the Arab Water Council. CEDARE Water Director indicated that the session concluded that: National Laws and Legislations should embrace water related Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation measures, The Water Community need to communicate with the Climate Change Community, Water Management authorities and operators at all levels are encouraged to monitor their water and energy consumptions, in addition to water losses and leakages, and implement measures for adaptation and mitigation.
In the session organized on March 20th, 2018, by the Global Water Partnership on "Urban Water Governance" at the 8th World Water Forum in Brazil, Speakers from GWP, OECD, CEDARE, and India shared their views on the topic. CEDARE, Water Resources Director, Khaled AbuZeid, presented the "Alexandria 2030 Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) Strategic Plan". He indicated that it represents a model for Stakeholder Participation and Strategic Water Supply Options Analysis in Urban Water Planning for Smart Cities of the Future.

تقرر تشكيل لجنة من ممثلي وزارات الزراعة والري والمرافق والصناعة والصحة لصياغة استراتيجية وطنية للتوسع في إعادة استخدام مياه الصرف الصحي المعالج ومراجعة القوانين الخاصة بالتخلص منها بما يراعي مفهوم إعادة الاستخدام للمياه المعالجة عند تخطيط وإنشاء المدن الجديدة بحيث تكون محطات المعالجة بالقرب من الاراضي الزراعية التي يمكن ريها بتلك المياه.
جاء ذلك خلال ندوة الحوار الوطني الثالثة حول إعادة استخدام مياه الصرف الصحي والتي شارك فيها الخبراء وممثلو الوزارات المعنية ود. محمود أبوزيد رئيس المجلس العربي للمياه وزير الري الأسبق ود. حسين العطفي أمسن عام المجلس وزير الري الأسبق.
أوضح الدكتور خالد أبوزيد مدير برنامج الموارد المائية بمركز البيئة والتنمية للإقليم العربي وأوروبا (سيداري) أن المشاركين أكدوا على ضرورة الإسراع في تعديل الكود الهندسي الخاص لتوسيع نطاق استخدام هذا المصدر المائي، على أن تكون هذه الاستراتيجية ضمن الأوليات للوزارات المعنية، لافتين كذلك إلى أهمية تشجيع القطاع الخاص للشراكة مع المستثمرين الزراعيين في تكاليف معالجة مياه الصرف مقابل إمدادهم بمصدر دائم للمياه. وإعادة تأهيل محطات المعالجة وشبكات الصرف الصحي بما يسهم في ري الزراعات لمؤثرة في استقرار الأمن الغذائي.
