Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Water Expert and Senior Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, CEDARE has participated in the Third Arab Water Conference. and he presented a presentation on “Water – Energy – Food Security Nexus in the Arab region” that was during the 10th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council and the 17th Meeting for the Advisory Board of Scientific Technical Committee was held during the period from 29 April to 3 May 2018 in Kuwait
In the framework of the (ReWater MENA) project which is implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in cooperation with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the International Centre for Agricultural Research (FAO) and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation and other stakeholders. CEDARE has organized the 1st National Learning Alliance Dialogue on Wastewater Reuse, & Consultation Dialogue on Wastewater & Reuse Baseline “Towards a National 2030 Shared Strategy for Water Reuse”, on the 20th of May 2019. The project aims to reuse more and safer by putting a common national strategy for water reuse in Egypt until 2030.
Dr. AbuZeid, Regional Water Resources Programme Manager CEDARE (Center for Environment & Development for Arab Region & Europe, as a member of the Expert Group of the Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF). Has attended two Expert Group meetings at which the foundational documents and structure for the GRAF have been defined. The main aim was to build on the Concept Note, the Theory of Change, the Delivery Plan and the consolidation of the Working Groups to operationalize the GRAF. Dr. Abuzeid has participated in the Third Expert Group meeting that has focused on planning how stakeholders will be able to extract the risk information they need, resource mobilization and updates on Working Groups’ progress and the communications and outreach strategies, including the launch of the GRAF at the Global Platform 2019.
The world celebrates on March 22nd of each year as World Water Day, and each year the theme determined by the United Nations, and this year’s theme is “Leaving no one behind” which is consistent with the Water Goal of Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Which is entitled “Water and Sanitation for Everyone” under Goal 6, 8 sub goals falls below 12 indicators to measure progress in achieving these goals. On this occasion Dr. Khaled has highlighted some indicators for the water status in the Arab Region which were mentioned in 3rd State of Water Report in the Arab Region which was displayed for several days, the report also has indicated the achievements made by the Arab Countries under Goal Six for Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
Within the framework of regional support for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in cooperation with the League of Arab States, Prof. Khaled Abuzeid Regional Water Resources Programme Manager CEDARE (Center for Environment & Development for Arab Region & Europe was invited to the Regional Consultation on Climate Change for the 2019 Arab Forum on Sustainable Development and High-Level Political Forum at the United Nations House in Beirut from 21 to 22 March 2019. The objective of the regional consultation is to exchange and consolidate regional views on climate change related issues and priorities facing the Arab region in light of Sustainable Development Goal 13, which urges action to combat climate change and its impacts.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture hosted “The Saudi Arabia Preparatory Workshop for Hosting the G20 Meetings in 2020 in the Fields of Environment, Water and Agriculture”. The workshop was chaired by HE Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, and attended by HE Minister of State and member of the Council of Ministers, and the Secretary-General of the G20 Saudi Secretariat, Dr. Fahad Al-Mubarak, and leaders and heads of international organizations concerned with the environment, water and agriculture sectors.
Prof. Khaled Abuzeid Regional Water Resources Programme Manager CEDARE (Center for Environment & Development for Arab Region & Europe has presented CEDARE’s views regarding the most important topics at the international and regional levels in the field of environment, water and agriculture that could be discussed during the Kingdom’s G-20 meeting in 2020.
On the occasion of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2019 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) of UN-Habitat cordially, Prof. Khaled Abuzeid Regional Water Resources Programme Manager CEDARE (Center for Environment & Development for Arab Region & Europe has participated in the 1st Expert Group Meeting on Water Utilities in Water Scarce Cities that we organize on 17 January 2019 with the support of Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. The main objective of this EGM is to formulate expert recommendations for urban water utilities in water scarce cities in arid regions, in line with SDGs and the New Urban Agenda led by UN-Habitat, to be presented at WUF10 in 2020 in Abu Dhabi. In addition, the meeting also served to identify knowledgeable mentor and mentee water utilities to engage in new Water Operators’ Partnerships themed around water scarcity, energy efficiency and resilience to climate change.
