CEDARE is one of the main partners in the Regional Knowledge Network on Systemic Approaches to Water Resources Management (R-KNOW), lead by IUCN. R-Know is a regional project funded by the European Union (2013-2016). The project is being implemented in five countries (Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco and Egypt). R-KNOW aims to influence policy and decision-making processes as a means to enhance good governance and policy coherence for sustainable development.
CEDARE is coordinating the Knowledge Node on “water, energy and food security nexus”. The Nexus approach provides opportunity for sustainable development and effective environmental governance by integrating management and governance across sectors. The overall goal is to achieve water and food security, as well as sustainable energy, to reduce hunger and improve livelihoods.
Renewable energy is a vital element for sustainable development in the Arab region. As such, it is the basic component of any Nexus. The Nexus entails also addressing the financial instruments such as subsidy policies and incentives for private sector engagement. R-KNOW aims to provide perspectives and approaches on the nexus to policy makers and practitioners, regional and national organizations, local communities and civil society.
