In respect to the call that was issued by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) for nominations of candidature for the inaugural Expert Group of the Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF). Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Water Expert and Senior Regional Water Resources Programme Manager, CEDARE has been selected as a member in the Expert Group. Accordingly, he was invited to attend the first meeting of the GRAF expert group in Geneva, 13 June 2018 and lasted for two days.
The establishment of the Expert Group was one of the principal recommendations of the Expert Meeting on the GRAF held in Geneva on 20-21 November 2017, and we have been encouraged by both the quantity and quality of Expressions of Interest received. Selection has been made on the basis of: technical and operational relevance to the design and development of the GRAF; updated and scientifically sound experience and topic excellence; assuring global geographic coverage; and representation of gender and major stakeholder groups to the greatest extent possible.
The initial remit of the Expert Group is to provide guidance and direction in the co-design and collaborative development of the GRAF, including strategic, technical, functional and operational aspects.
Dr. AbuZeid was invited to the first meeting of the Expert Group on the GRAF will take place on 13-14 June 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland.
