On 20th August 2017, the Swiss Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) management unit based at CEDARE and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) organized a training workshop on Environmental Registry. Participants, who are beneficiaries of SRI Accelerator Programme for existing enterprises and beneficiaries of SRI Entrepreneurship Support and Incubation Programme: E-Khorda, acquired technical and operational competence to obtain environmental registry in the one-day training.
“This training workshop, like many others, aimed at supporting the start-ups and existing enterprises in the field of e-waste recycling and management by means of capacity building and technical backstopping. Participants were introduced to the content of Environmental Registry and Environmental Hazards and Material, in addition, they received guidance and training on filling the forms they need to obtain Environmental Registry. A recent register is mandated by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, and is essential to comply with environmental inspection prerequisites”, said Dr. Hossam Allam, Manager of Sustainable Growth Programme, CEDARE.
The training workshop took place in coordination with the GEF/UNDP Medical and Electronic Waste Management Project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, which recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SRI to collaborate in supporting and building the capacity of e-waste enterprises and start-ups in sustainable e-waste management including collection, transfer, sorting, dismantling, and storing as per international standards.
