On the 10th of March 2020 in Cairo – Egypt and at the premises of the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT), Switzerland and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced in a press conference their agreement on the extension of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) project in Egypt, originally launched in 2016 and completed in 2018, through an additional grant contribution of 1.2 million CHF for the period 2020-2023.

Steering Committee of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Project holds the Sixth Meeting
Under the framework of SRI project, the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT) in coordination with the Centre of Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE convened the overall sixth steering committee meeting overall and the first in the second phase of the project. The meeting was scheduled on February 24th and was held at the MCIT premises.

Electronic waste, also known as e-waste, is one of the fast-growing types of waste worldwide which includes discarded electrical or electronic equipment such as old televisions, computers, printers, mobile phones and lead batteries. High toxicity of e-waste, including lead, causes pollution and health problems if improperly disposed of through methods like incineration. On the other hand, e-waste also contains important secondary non-renewable materials such as copper. Disposal of such valuable materials means that they are lost forever and cannot be reused. CEDARE publishes 6 reports on E-Waste Recycling in Egypt
Sponsored by the Swiss Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Programme, 6 assessment reports have been developed by CEDARE in the context of the SRI Egypt project. The Project was implemented by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and CEDARE in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, UNDP-GEF Medical and Electronic Waste Management Project, Ministry of Finance, & Ministry of Trade & Industry. The Swiss partners were represented by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), World Resource Forum Association (WRFA) & Sofies. The first phase of the project was implemented throughout the period from July 2016 to June 2018.
The Swiss SRI project successfully concludes Phase I in Egypt
On Tuesday, June 26th, 2018, the Closing Forum of the first phase of the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) project took place to mark the conclusion of phase 1 of the project which nearly lasted for two years.
SRI Egypt Steering Committee holds its Fifth Meeting in Conclusion of Phase 1

SRI Egypt completes A Study Tour to Switzerland and Belgium
The Swiss Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Programme has just concluded a 4-day Study Tour for its Egyptian partners and beneficiaries on E-waste and Recycling which took place from 15 to 20 April 2018. The study tour aimed at addressing the questions and concerns among the stakeholders of the present system (Ministries and recycling companies) and providing additional experience for a successful continuation of the efforts of the SRI project Management team and stakeholders.
