CEDARE represented by Dr. Khaled AbuZeid participated at the 8th World Water Forum (www.worldwaterforum8.org) held in Brasilia. In a session held on March 19th, 2018, discussing SDGs, Migration & Post Conflict Areas in the Arab Region, CEDARE, being part of the panel that included representatives from Lebanon, Palestine, and the League of Arab States, indicated that Wars, political unrest, and instability in the Arab Region caused a lot of Migration Volumes and destruction of water infrastructure in conflict zones putting pressure on water systems in countries of conflict, and neighboring countries receiving conflict-induced refugees. Dr. AbuZeid pointed out that the cost of achieving SDG6 in conflict countries and refugee-recipient countries is tremendously increasing and will require additional investment and special consideration. He highlighted that International law should pay due attention to transboundary basins riparian states taking advantage of political unrests situations in compromising shared water resources with infrastructure construction on shared rivers without the necessary consultation with potentially affected states.
