COP14 Sharm ElSheikh: “National Initiative for Reducing Plastic Bags Consumption” Awareness Session

As part of the activities of the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention in Sharm ElSheikh, CEDARE in partnership with the Ministry of Environment co-organized an awareness session on “Plastic Bags Pollution of the Environment”. CEDARE Contributed in the Meeting of MED Parliamentarians and Key Stakeholders for “A Plastic-Free Mediterranean Sea in the Making”, Brussels, 21 November 2018

CEDARE Regional Water Director, Khaled AbuZeid, contributed the meeting of Mediterranean Parliamentarians and Key Stakeholders for “A Plastic-Free Mediterranean Sea in the Making” organized by the European Parliament Intergroup on Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas, MIO-ECSDE, and CoMPSud at the European Parliament in Brussels, November 21st, 2018.

CEDARE Attended the 2019 – 2021 AWC Work Plan Consultative Meeting , Cairo, 18 November 2018

CEDARE Regional Water Director, Khaled AbuZeid, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Water Council, participates​ at the consultative meeting on the work plan of the Council for the period from 2019 to 2021 in Cairo on Sunday, 18 November 2018. The Arab Water Council’s work plan includes four main themes, including integrated water resource management, enhancing cooperation on shared water resources, adapting to climate change in the water sector, and the interlinkages between water, food and energy.

CEDARE publishes 6 reports on E-Waste Recycling in Egypt

Sponsored by the Swiss Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Programme, 6 assessment reports have been developed by CEDARE in the context of the SRI Egypt project. The Project was implemented by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and CEDARE in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, UNDP-GEF Medical and Electronic Waste Management Project, Ministry of Finance, & Ministry of Trade & Industry. The Swiss partners were represented by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), World Resource Forum Association (WRFA) & Sofies. The first phase of the project was implemented throughout the period from July 2016 to June 2018.

CEDARE Shared as Keynote Speaker at the Ad-Hoc Group Meeting on Climate Change Adaptation at the Union for the Mediterranean, Barcelona, November 13th, 2018.

CEDARE Water Resources Director, Khaled AbuZeid spoke in front of the Ad-Hoc Group Meeting on Climate Change Adaptation at the Union for the Mediterranean, in Barcelona, November 13th, 2018. Dr. AbuZeid listed a series of extreme flash floods that struck the Mediterranean countries in the past few years. He highlighted the importance of studying flood frequency trends and differentiating between normal return periods of extreme flood events, climate change impacts, and human-induced impacts of urbanization in floodplains. He presented examples of adaptation to climate change in the Water sector and recommendations for no-regret actions that serve for climate change adaptation, but also for coping with water scarcity, sea level rise, sea water intrusion, shore protection, and flood protection.

CEDARE Participated as a Member in the UN Experts Group on “Global Risk Assessment Framework” (GRAF) 2nd meeting, Geneva, Switzerland, 8-9 November, 2018.

The United Nations Experts Group on the “Global Risk Assessment‎ Framework” (GRAF) held its 2nd meeting at the premises of the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland during the period of 8-9 November, 2018.

Khaled AbuZeid, CEDARE Regional Director for Water Resources, and member of the GRAF Experts Group,‎ indicated that the adoption of The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 on 18 March 2015 articulated the need for improved understanding of risk in all dimensions and created new requirements for building societal resilience to environmental and technological shocks.

The UFM WEG addresses various themes such as Water Employment & Migration, Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus, Water Supply and Sanitation, and Water & Climate Change Adaptation.
