“Bus Systems & Energy Transition: Socially Responsible Shifts Towards Cleaner Buses in Egypt” Roundtable

On December 8th, 2022, the UN-HABITAT Egypt Country Office hosted and co-organized in cooperation with CEDARE & FES Egypt Office a roundtable workshop titled “Bus Systems & Energy Transition: Socially Responsible Shifts Towards Cleaner Buses in Egypt”. The meeting brought together experts and key players in the public transport industry, specifically Bus Systems, for the aim of discussing Egypt’s aligning plans with the global commitments announced at the COP27 as well as the post COP updates and recommendations and how to translate them into actions in 2023. Participants included experts and executives from the Ministry of Transport, public authorities, private sector representing bus manufacturers, service providers, local operators, battery chargers’ manufacturers/assemblers, and consultants.

“The Advent of Micromobility” is the core of the participatory training of trainers workshops launched by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) / Egypt Office, on the 19th of September, 2021.

CEDARE’s 2020 Policy support and training for Sustainable Cities and future plans for air pollution control

As 2020 came to a close, CEDARE in collaboration with FES Egypt celebrated its publication “Mainstreaming Electric Mobility in Egypt: Seeing the bigger picture of sustainable cities“. The training programs revolving around this policy document came at a very relevant time during the COVID-19 pandemic, when one of the major challenges in preventive measures is the provision of transportation alternatives, and remembering that electric mobility is only “a” solution and not “the” solution. Among the key highlights were the reminders that fuel-quality in Egypt is a fundamental prerequisite to cleaner air and parallel planning for walkability and cycling friendliness are essential to the bigger picture of a sustainable city. An introduction to the concepts of Micromobility has also been addressed with reflections on the necessary regulations that must be developed in the coming years.

Draft Policy Brief on Sustainable Transport in Egypt

CEDARE, in cooperation with FES Egypt and the Ministry of Egypt hosted Sustainable Transport Egypt 2018 Conference on Electric Mobility and the Advent of Electric Vehicles that took place in Cairo on 24th & 25th of October 2018.

In aims of maximizing benefit of the discussions: the presented draft policy brief  has been uploaded, for comments and consultations until the 15th of November 2018.

The final draft will be uploaded once comments and recommendations are incorporated

Egyptian Minister of Environment opens STE18: Cleaner Mobility and the advent of Electric Vehicles

Driven by a fast growing need for establishing an electric mobility system as an important developmental priority for Egypt, the second conference on Sustainable Transport in Egypt was held under the theme of Electric Mobility. STE2016 – Sustainable Transport in Egypt: Progress, Prospects and Partnerships,Wednesday, December 14th, 2016, Cairo

On December 14th, 2016, diverse stakeholders in the fields of transportation, urban planning, environment, and intelligent transportation systems, all gathered for a dissemination event held by Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) to disseminate their projects in sustainable transportation. The results of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative study on fuel economy for light duty vehicles for Egypt was presented, along with an interactive discussion about the various policies suggested in Egypt and presented through a policy brief that was handed out to all participants.
