MEWINA National Capacity Building Workshop, 30 March – 4 April 2014, Tunisia

Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries organized its national Capacity Building Workshop during the period from December 23rd to 25th, 2013. It was attended by the Project’s Regional Coordinator, the Regional M&E Specialist, Tunisia’s AMCOW TAC member, the national coordination team, National M&E Specialist, and the National Task Force members and other stakeholders. 

The workshop objective was to present the regionally agreed upon set of 15 water sector indicators and to explain how they are calculated enabling the NAMCOW countries to comprehensively and systematically assess the SOW. The national workshop was also a great opportunity to widely discuss the procedure required for indicators’ calculation method in details as far as the Tunisian case is concerned, which will eventually be a routine practice by the M&E unit in the Ministry of Agriculture along with the national task force members in other water-related ministries and institutions.

On March 3rd, 2014, the National MEWINA Project Management Unit in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation in Mauritania held its national 3-days Capacity Building Workshop. The Project’s Regional Coordinator, the Regional M&E Specialist, Mauritania’s AMCOW TAC member, the national coordination team, National M&E Specialist, and the National Task Force members and stakeholders, gathered to discuss the regionally agreed upon and unified set of 15 water indicators The regional experts explained how water indicators were calculated and how they are used in assessing the national SOW comprehensively and systematically. The training workshop was also a great opportunity to widely discuss any specific procedure required for indicators’ detailed calculation method in Mauritania, and to discuss methodology of preparing the national SOW which will be published in the second quarter of 2014.

The National MEWINA Project Management Unit in the Ministry of Water Resources, Algeria organized its national Capacity Building Workshop during the period from February 24th to 26th, 2014. Attended by the Project’s Regional Coordinator, the Regional M&E Specialist, Algeria’s AMCOW TAC member, the national coordination team, National M&E Specialist, and the National Task Force members and other stakeholders,  the workshop aimed at presenting the regionally agreed upon set of 15 water indicators. The regional experts explained how water indicators were calculated enabling the NAMCOW countries to comprehensively and systematically assess the national SOW and publish national SOW reports in the second quarter of the year. The workshop was also a great opportunity to widely discuss any specific procedure required for indicators’ detailed calculation method in Algeria, which will eventually be a routine practice by the M&E unit in the Ministry of Water Resources along with the national task force members in other water-related ministries and institutions.

MEWINA National Capacity Building Workshop, 27 – 30 January 2014, Libya

In the frame of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Water Sector in the North Africa Project (MEWINA), that was implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE).  Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, MEWINA Project Regional Coordinator has participated and organized the National Capacity Building Workshop that was held from 27 to 30 January 2014 in Libya.

Accordingly, Capacity building among African States to cope with the challenges of data collection, analysis, monitoring, evaluation and reporting became one of the major areas of investment for the African Water Facility (AWF) over the following years.

Capacity Building for the Arab Water Council (AWC-CEDARE-World Bank), Duration (2007-2009)

Capacity Building for the Arab Water CouncilCapacity Building of the Arab Water Council is to generate changes in national institutions and policies in the Arab Countries of the Middle East and North Africa to enable more efficient water management in the region.  A memorandum of understanding was signed between CEDARE and the World Bank on February 2007 to enhance the AWC organizational capacity to fulfill and sustain its function as the regional water knowledge platform.  Total Budget allocated to the project is $ 300,000.  The activities will be carried out upon signing the contract for duration of 30 months period.
